Pyramidal Hornbeam
Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'
The Pyramidal Hornbeam is exceptionally distinctive, it displays a narrow, columnar form in youth becoming more pyramidal to tear drop shaped with age maturing to 40 feet tall and 25 to 30 feet wide. The dark green leaves are clean and attractive throughout the growing season turning yellow in the fall and their trunks have smooth gray bark. It is primarily valued in the landscape for its rigidly columnar form.
