River Birch

River Birch

Betula nigra

The most prized feature of the River Birch Tree is its delicate bark. The bark of the River Birch reveals salmon and cinnamon colors hidden under the light outer skin. In the fall its leaves turn a greenish yellow color. The River Birch is resistant to strong winds and ice because of strong branches and limbs, adding to its appeal. This distinctive tree adapts well to various soil types though it prefers acidic soil which allows the birch tree to grow in places others won’t survive.
